Adanac Poodles takes their health testing very seriously to ensure that we are producing the healthiest puppies possible ! These puppies go one to become active, HEALTHY members of your family. Although nothing is 100% , we try and utilize tests available to us to come as close to this percentage as we can.

 When you take your new puppy home we provide you with copies of the parents health testing for your records in your puppy folder. We test the parents for hips dysplasia(OFA), elbow dysplasia(OFA), eyes ( PRCD and a eye cerf ), Patellas, Osteochondrodysplasia and Degenerative Mylopothy (DM) . 

 

Hips and Elbows

 

Radiographs are taken and sent to the Orthopedic Foundation For Animals (OFA) to rule out hip and elbow dysplasia and another crippling degenerative disease call Leggs-Calf Perthes (LCP) 

 

 

Eyes

 

All of our dogs are DNA tested for PRCD( progressive red-cone degeneration), one type of PRA that is common in poodles. To rule out other types they have their eyes certified by a veterinarian opthamologist for other various diseases such as optic nerve hypoplasia.

 

Patellas

 

Patellas are examined as puppies by a veternarion and then vet certified at one year of age. Puppies can have loose patellas when they are young but should tighten by one year of age as ligaments and muscles grow.

 

 

Osteochondrodysplasia (Dwarfism)

 

A DNA test to rule out an inherited  musculoskeletal disease affecting Miniature Poodles.

 

 

Degenerative Myelopathy

 

A DNA test to rule out this crippling disease The average age of onset for dogs with degenerative myelopathy is approximately nine years of age. Affected dogs usually present in adulthood with gradual muscle Atrophy and loss of coordination typically beginning in the hind limbs due to degeneration of the nerves. The condition is not typically painful for the dog, but will progress until the dog is no longer able to walk.
